Cambodian, Asian, and International Tripartite Closed-Door Meeting on Fencing Development and Hosting Conditions for International Referee Exams

On the evening of September 16, 2026, following the conclusion of the Intercontinental Fencing Conference, a closed-door meeting was held between high-ranking leaders of the International, Asian and Cambodia Federation—including Prince Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Fencing Confederation of Asia (FCA), and Ms. Gulnora Saidova, Secretary General of the International Fencing Federation (FIE)—and Cambodian representative Mr. Thong Tangchin, Treasurer of the Fencing Federation of Cambodia (FFC). The discussion focused on the current status and future direction of fencing development in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
This key meeting highlighted three main agendas to advance technical work, raise Cambodian fencing to international standards, and enhance preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games:
Preparation of the Progress Report: The Fencing Confederation of Asia requested Cambodia to collaborate on drafting a detailed report on the evolution and momentum of fencing in Cambodia, serving as a foundation for future strategic support plans.
Conditions for Hosting Referee Examinations: Regarding the request to host international referee certification exams, international delegates specified that Cambodia must first host an official Asian or world-level competition before applying to host the exams, as active competition is required to evaluate candidates during testing.
Other Proposals: Other requests and suggestions raised during the meeting will be submitted to the Executive Committee for discussion during their upcoming executive meeting, with decisions expected in the near future.
This closed-door meeting represents another step forward, demonstrating the attention and support of international and Asian leadership in advancing Cambodian fencing on the global stage.
