Cambodian Fencing Concludes 2026 Season Ranked 3rd in Southeast Asia: Committed to Reforms and Capacity Building Ahead of 2027

Vietnam, 24 October 2026

The 2026 Southeast Asian Fencing Championship, which took place from October 18 to October 23, 2026, in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, has officially concluded with great success. This marks the final international competition for Cambodian fencing in 2026.

According to the official results of the event, host nation Vietnam dominated the medal table with a total of 27 medals, while the Philippines claimed 12, Malaysia secured 8, and Cambodia earned 1 medal. Although 5 countries participated—with Singapore failing to win any medals—the single gold medal captured by Cambodia proudly placed the nation in 3rd position.

Despite achieving 3rd place and bringing home a gold medal for the nation, the outcome was not favorably evaluated by the team's three coaches. Mr. Lean Moses, head coach of Cambodian fencing, assessed after the tournament:

"We had a total of 12 male and female fencers participating in 6 individual events and 3 team events. However, the actual results remain limited compared to our expectations, as we aimed to secure at least 2 medals and hoped to see more of our fencers reach the Round of 16 (1/8) and round of 8 (1/4) stages."

This evaluation reflects the high level of commitment from the coaching staff, who are not complacent with current achievements but are willing to face reality in order to address their weaknesses.

The conclusion of this final international mission of 2026 is not the end, but rather a crucial stepping stone. Drawing on the experience and lessons learned on Vietnamese soil, Cambodian Fencing has set a firm commitment:

  • Strengthening Technique and Capacity: Intensify training to enhance the fencers' skills to meet higher international standards.

  • Addressing Shortcomings: Use the coaches' feedback and evaluations as a compass to guide new strategic planning.

  • Preparing for 2027: Focus heavily on physical, technical, and competitive mental preparations to break new records and claim more medals in international competitions coming up in 2027.

Cambodian fencing will continue its tireless efforts with perseverance, committed to elevating the spirit of national sports to shine even brighter on the international stage!
