Cambodian Fencing took part in The World Walking Day 2025
Phnom Penh, 6 Oct 2025
This year, Cambodian Fencing joined the celebration of the World Walking Day 2025 at two different locations — Kampong Cham Province and Phnom Penh Capital — attracting around 6,000 participants on October 5, 2025.
The World Walking Day is a global initiative established in 1991 by the Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA), aiming to encourage people worldwide to engage in physical activity and exercise for better health. On this day, participants organize various events and activities to promote movement, all taking place simultaneously at 10:00 AM.
Cambodian Fencing has taken part in this event since 2023, first in Prey Veng Province, then in Phnom Penh in 2024, and this year, at two different locations — in Kampong Cham during the morning and along the Chaktomuk walk street in Phnom Penh later in the day.
The main purpose of participating is to support the government’s Pentagonal Strategy under the theme “One Youth, One Sport for Life.” It also aims to showcase fencing in public events, promoting the values and benefits of this sport, and helping the public understand its rules and competition format. In addition, it provides an opportunity to discover talented individuals who can be trained to represent Cambodia in international fencing competitions.
Mr. Sok Ang, Secretary-General of the Fencing Federation of Cambodian, stated that beyond professional-level competitions, the federation aims to promote fencing as a recreational sport that anyone can enjoy. He added that fencing actually includes three types:
Traditional Fencing, which uses real swords and uniforms made from metal and genuine leather.
Laser Fencing (Lighting Sabre), inspired by the Hollywood film Star Wars, where characters fight with laser swords as well as blasters.
Modern Fencing, officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and included in the Olympic Games since 1896.
At present, in addition to training athletes for local and international tournaments, the federation is also working to raise public awareness through demonstrations and exhibitions, helping more Cambodians recognize that fencing exists in the country. Moreover, modern fencing also includes categories for athletes with disabilities.
