This Year's Asian General Assembly Showcases New Developments in Regional Fencing
Phnom Penh, 20 June 2026
Mr. Khchao Sopheap, Executive Member, and Mr. Sok Ang, Coach of the Fencing Federation of Cambodia, attended the 2026 Fencing Confederation of Asia General Assembly on June 19, 2026, at the Le Méridien New Delhi hotel in New Delhi, India, with permission from the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport.
The General Assembly was chaired by Sheikh Salem Sultan AlQasimi, President of the FCA, and Secretary General, Mr. Rajeev Mehta, accompanied by numerous distinguished guests. These included Mr. EL HUSSEINY Abdelmoneim, Interim President of the International Fencing Federation (FIE); Mr. Anthony Donald, Vice President of the FIE and President of the U.S. Fencing Federation; Mrs. Saidova Gulnora, Secretary General of the FIE; and Mr. Vitaly Logvin, President of the Pan American Fencing Confederation. In addition, members from 34 federations across Asia participated in the meeting, including Cambodia.
In addition to discussing and approving the 2025 activity report, the 2025 financial report, and the progress of fencing as of 2025, the General Assembly's agenda also included bidding to host competitions in 2026, 2027, and 2028. The Assembly voted and reached the following results:
The 2027 Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships will be held in Taihu, People's Republic of China.
The 2028 Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships will be held in Taiwan.
The 2027 Asian Fencing Championships were reaffirmed to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and will be designated as a qualification event for the 2028 Olympics in the United States.
The 2028 Asian Fencing Championships will be held in India again.
The 2026 Asian U23 Fencing Championships will be held in Bahrain. For 2027 and 2028, no country has yet expressed the intention to host; bidding will be announced following this General Assembly, with a deadline set for one month later.
Regarding the Veteran Fencing Championships—which serve as both a technical and tourism-oriented fencing competition—the format will be changed and combined with the children's competition. This combined event will begin in 2027, hosted by China, and the 2028 event will be hosted in Taiwan.
Furthermore, the Fencing Confederation of Asia requested the General Assembly to approve the following development plans:
Request the fencing federations of China, Korea, and India to select outstanding male and female fencers to serve as ambassadors representing Asia. Their role will be to promote and encourage fencers across the Asian continent to increase the sport's popularity and ensure success at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
Increase fencing competitions across all 5 zones of Asia, ranging from the youth championship level to the multi-sport level.
Request the International Fencing Federation to include competition results in its official ranking system to enhance the value and quality of fencing in the Asian Games.
Seek suggestions or ideas for the Asian fencing development plan leading up to the 2028 Olympics.
The General Assembly concluded successfully with full support for the plans and the ongoing progress of Asian fencing, committing to continue participating in this development.
Mr. Khchao Sopheap and Mr. Sok Ang will continue their stay in India with the Cambodian fencing team, who are participating in the 2026 Asian Fencing Championships.
