Cambodia Makes Its Mark at the 2025 World Fencing Championships
Tbilisi, Georgia – 24 July 2025
Cambodia proudly confirms its participation in the 2025 World Fencing Championships, held from July 22 to July 30 in the city of Tbilisi, Georgia. This year, the nation is represented on the global stage by Khmer-Italian fencer, Olga, who is competing in the Women’s Individual Foil event.
While Cambodian fencer Roeun Makara was initially granted permission by the International Fencing Federation to join the pre-competition training camp, unforeseen circumstances prevented his participation in the final tournament. Despite this setback, Cambodia’s presence is strongly upheld by Olga’s active competition under the national banner.
Speaking on the occasion, Olga shared her heartfelt sentiments:
"I am deeply honored to continue my fencing career under the Cambodian flag. This marks the beginning of a new chapter, filled with emotion and a strong sense of responsibility. The opportunity to represent a country that has believed in me from the very start fills me with pride and gratitude."
Olga, who recently obtained her Cambodian passport, emphasized that her participation in this year’s World Championships came as a welcome surprise.
"I didn’t want to miss the chance to be here. Returning to compete at a high level is always exciting, and doing so with an eye toward the upcoming season—especially the SEA Games in December—makes this moment even more meaningful."
She reaffirmed her dedication and commitment to both her personal performance and the advancement of Cambodian sport:
"I will give my all, in every match and every training session, to ensure that the trust the Cambodian Federation has placed in me is well deserved. I know I carry a great responsibility, and I embrace it with enthusiasm, determination, and respect. I truly hope to contribute, through my efforts, to the success of the team and to the growth of sport in Cambodia. This is just the beginning—but I’m ready to give everything I have."
The 2025 World Fencing Championships marks a pivotal step in Cambodia’s efforts to gain international recognition in fencing. With Olga's presence on the piste and the continued support of the Cambodian Fencing Federation, the nation's sporting future continues to shine brightly on the global stage.
