International fencing restricts use of logos on competition uniforms

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 28 Oct 2025

According to the announcement issued by the International Fencing Federation (FIE) on October 22, all national federations have been informed regarding the reinforcement of regulations on the use of logo on athletes’ uniforms during official competitions organized by the International Fencing Federation.

FIE will tighten the enforcement of regulations concerning logos on competition uniforms starting from

the 2025/2026 season onward. The logos placed on the uniforms are classified into two categories:

1.      As a symbol or mark representing the country of each fencing athlete. This symbol may be the national flag, an abbreviation of the country’s name in English, or the national emblem representing that country. However, all such logos must be officially approved by FIE According to the Material Rules M.25, Article (f) stipulates that:

a.      Logos (national strips) worn on the national clothing must be approved by the FIE Executive Committee; they are then published on the FIE website and may thereafter be used in official FIE competitions.

The officially recognized logo must be uniformly applied and used by all national sports federations, maintaining consistency in both design and size. It must be printed on both sides of the trousers and on the sleeve.

b.      For all official FIE competitions, the wearing of national strips (logos) is compulsory on both legs, optional on the arm(s) (cf. t.74), and the logos must be identical.

2.     The commercial logo refers to the display of private company's logo that sponsor federation or athletes during training and competitions, both national and international. However, the placement and size are determined by the regulations of the FIE. According to the Publicity code P12 of the FIE, the following conditions are stipulated:

a.     Uniform:
