Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 29 October 2025
The 2025 Asian Under-23 Fencing Championships concluded with success and spectacle, marking another step forward for the region’s emerging generation of fencers. Hosted by the Fencing Confederation of Asia and organized under the coordination of the Malaysian Fencing Association, the six-day tournament ran from October 21 to 26, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, gathering a total of 191 athletes, including 77 women from 18 countries across Asia and Oceania.
Representing Cambodia, a five-member delegation joined the prestigious event, led by Coach and Team Manager Mr. Sok Ang, alongside four female fencers: Pen Narita, Chor Sereymorakot, Chor Sereymunita, and Sovann Sandra. The Cambodian athletes competed across several sabre disciplines, including women’s individual sabre and women’s team sabre.
Unfortunately, Sovann Sandra was unable to participate due to administrative restrictions stemming from an unpaid athlete membership fee for the 2025 season. Despite this setback, the Cambodian team showcased impressive determination and skill throughout the competition.
In the women’s individual sabre, Pen Narita achieved a commendable 17th place, while the Chor sisters, Sereymorakot and Sereymunita—finished 24th and 25th respectively. Together, the trio secured a bronze medal in the women’s team sabre, marking a proud moment for Cambodia on the continental stage.
With this achievement, Cambodia concluded the championships ranked ninth overall, a testament to the nation’s growing presence and potential within Asian fencing.
Coach Ang praised the athletes for their dedication and composure against some of Asia’s strongest fencing nations, emphasizing that the result highlights Cambodia’s steady rise in regional competition.
“Our fencers fought with heart and discipline,” he said. “This medal is not just a reward, it’s a sign that Cambodian fencing is on the right path.”
The 2025 Asian Under-23 Fencing Championships served as both a proving ground for young talent and a preview of future stars who may soon represent their nations on the senior circuit. For Cambodia, it was a campaign that combined resilience, teamwork, and a growing ambition to carve its name into Asia’s fencing elite.
