Khmer-American Fencer Danika Joins Effort to Support Cambodian Fencing Team
Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Danika YAM, a 17-year-old Khmer-American fencer, has officially expressed her commitment to join the Cambodian national fencing team with the ambition of representing Cambodia in international competitions and contributing to the nation’s sporting pride.
Currently residing in the United States, Danika has been rigorously training in fencing and has competed at both regional and national levels. Her exceptional performance has showcased strong technical skills and competitive readiness, qualifying her for potential participation on the international stage under the Cambodian flag.
In a demonstration of deep-rooted patriotism and solidarity with local athletes, Danika recently initiated a personal fundraising effort in the United States. With the generous support she received, she successfully acquired and donated essential training equipment to the Cambodian Fencing Federation. The donation includes 2 laptops and 8 complete sets of fencing uniform and swords.
These contributions are intended to support under-resourced athletes and the Federation’s newly established clubs, helping to enhance training conditions and preparation for domestic competitions.
On July 8, 2025, Danika and her family arrived in Cambodia to visit the national fencing team during their training session. During her visit, Danika expressed great enthusiasm about working with the team and reaffirmed her hope to join the national squad in future international competitions.
The Cambodian Fencing Federation welcomed Danika’s contribution and praised her dedication as a model of youth leadership and international solidarity. Her gesture marks a powerful example of the Cambodian diaspora’s role in the development of national sports.
