Srey Sros Crowned Gold Medalist for the Second Time in 2026

Phnom Penh, 07 June 2026

Fencer Hai Srey Sros continued her winning streak by defeating the 2023 SEA Games bronze medalist, Sorn Nich, at the 3rd National University and Technical Secondary School Games. This follows her previous victory over Chhay Linly at the 5th Western Cup competition back in March.

Since 2024, Srey Sros—who specializes in the foil event—has set her sights on winning a gold medal at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, relying on her own merits in the individual category. However, to achieve this goal, Srey Sros first had to overcome three top fencers in Cambodia: her first rival, Chhay Linly, a fellow foil specialist; Sorn Nich, a sabre specialist; and Yi Liza, another foil specialist (whose athlete license is currently suspended).

As a result, here in 2026, Srey Sros has successfully achieved her first milestone. She will now proceed to her second step: preparing for regional-level competitions, especially since the sport of fencing was not granted authorization by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to participate in the upcoming Asian Games in Japan.

Nevertheless, Srey Sros is actively saving up funds to compete in Asian and world-level tournaments later in 2026. Her goal is to gain valuable experience, analyze her opponents' capabilities, and refine her own techniques. Her participation in these upcoming international competitions also aligns with the fencing federation's strategic plan, which aims to provide her with further guidance and mentorship from Cambodian-Italian fencers when they travel to compete together abroad.

Srey Sros also hopes to receive sponsorship to achieve her goals, as well as to bring home a gold medal for her nation.
