Cambodian fencing withdraws from the 33rd Southeast Asian Games
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 13 Dec 2025
According to an official letter from the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia on December 10, 2025, it officially announced the withdrawal of its candidacy for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, which will be held from December 9 to 20, 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Fencing is one of the 12 sports that were finally decided to participate in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games after Cambodia and Thailand had a border dispute. However, due to the worsening conflict on December 7, 2025 and threats from extremist groups, the Cambodian leadership decided to withdraw its candidacy for repatriation and not participate in the other sport competitions during the games. For the fencing, which is scheduled to depart on December 14, it has also notified to the fencing organizing committee, as well as participating members in the region and the Fencing Confederation of Asia for the withdrawal of this candidacy.
